Centrix operates a consumer credit reporting bureau. The bureau holds personal credit information on individuals. Using that information, we provide credit reports on individuals to subscribers that use our consumer credit reporting services.
The Credit Reporting Privacy Code 2004 (“Code”) governs how we handle your personal credit information.
Collection of personal credit information
We only collect credit information for the purpose of operating our consumer credit reporting business.
Generally we collect credit information from our subscribers and from public sources. In most circumstances, authorisation from you is required before we collect your credit information from our subscribers. If we are collecting information that is publically available, your authorisation is not required.
We may collect credit information from you when you make a request
for your Centrix’ credit file.
The information we collect includes credit applications, defaults, insolvencies, judgments, company shareholding/directorships and periodic payments.
Use and disclosure of personal credit information
We will use your credit information for the purpose of carrying out our consumer credit reporting business. Centrix may also use your credit information in other circumstances as permitted under the Code.
Centrix may disclose your credit information to our subscribers, which include credit providers and debt collectors. Generally, disclosure of credit information will require your authorisation. There may be circumstances where your authorisation is not required, such as where the information is sourced from a publically available publication, or where disclosure is to a debt collector who is collecting a debt owed by you.
Retention of credit information
Centrix will keep credit information for no longer than required for our consumer credit reporting business, but for no longer than the specified retention periods in the Code.
Centrix will stop reporting defaults, judgments and summary instalment orders after 5 years and a single bankruptcy 4 years after discharge.

Centrix takes reasonable steps to protect the credit information its holds against loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure and any other misuse.

If you think Centrix has breached the Code, you should contact us and we will investigate your complaint in accordance with our complaints procedure
